hey guys i answered my own post. i posted a few days ago about pat nos. after just a little bit all of a sudden i found this.
http://www.google.com/patents?id=-2daAA ... dq=2170537 i have that knife with that patent no. this is an awesome new way to at least help date older knives. of course you cant date knives of patents alone since some of these patent are for improvements on previos models.but if you look hard enough at diagrams you can even better date your older usa knife by looking to see if it has the improvements mentioned. http://www.google.com/patents just made knife collecting even more fun for me!!!! let me know guys if anybody out their found this useful.take care in the link the last few digits are the patent no.

That is awesome. I need to get some legal size paper to print those documents. Thanks for the links.

I would guess that that patent # applies to any Imperial knife with the plastic handles. Mine have it too.

posted this awhile ago...glad to see someone else is using it!

the oddest thing is i have a colonial knife and when i plug in the patent it brings up something to do with steel..but nothing to do with the knife at all.

I can't get this to print right. It only prints the screen and then it's off center. The file also won't download to my hard drive. Am I doing something wrong or is this some type of patent protection? It's too involved to just look at on my monitor.
