I Wish To Share With You A Unique And Special Variation On One Of My Favorite Pocket Knives, The Coffin Bolster Crown Pen.
When I First Saw This Knife I Thought it Was A Customized Embellishment By The Owner. After Careful Inspection, I Realized It Was A Factory Red, White And Blue Facetted Stone Inlaid Pocket Knife. The Evidence Is Revealed On The Back Of The Knife Near The Center Pin. A Patent Pending Stamp Into The Waterfall Celluloid. Also There Are Impressions On The Celluloid Made By The Bail Being Clamped Down In Both Under And Over Positions. After The Clamping Of The Bail And Subsequent Rotational Movement, It Resulted In Circular Scratches Around The Bail Pin. I Could Certainly Argue That All Of This Was Performed By A Clever Craftsman, Including The Patent Pending Stamp, But I Don't Believe It. I Think This Is A Factory Customized Coffin Bolster Crown Pen. Adolph Kastor Spent A Lot Of Time On This Pattern. First Of All, Importing This Special Pattern From Germany With His Own Stamp Along With Other Contract Markings. After Starting Camillus Cutlery He Produced His Own Improved Version Of This Knife. Promoting And Selling It To Many Other Contract Clients As Well As Producing It With Many Of His House Brand Pocket Knife Stampings. I Have Searched For Another Example Of This Patent Pending Stone Inlaid Camillus In Any Pattern. Along With Searching For The Patent Itself With My Limited Computer Skills. Perhaps There Is Someone Out There That Has One Of These Inlaid Knives, Or More Adept Patent Searching Skills. And Might Shed More Light On This Adolph Kastor Special Pattern.

Certainly a really cool find. Especially with the 250 anniversary of the old U S of A this year.

I have one or two knives with the jewels set into the handle somewhere.

Read the patent many years ago, will see if I can find it again.

A beautiful and rare knife to be sure! I have one of those patterns with a 3 line Camillus stamp. No bail, straight bar shield, & beautiful swirl cel handles. Hope no one minds me posting this.
