All About Pocket Knives

Picked up this carbon steel barlow style boker, but hard to find info on it...only tang stamp is 493, and boker tree brand on the bolsters. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm far from a Boker expert, but I'm going to guess your knife was a Boker USA product simply because it would have been required to have "Germany" on the tang stamp if it were made outside the US. Other than that, it appears to have sawcut delrin handles and the blades have some staining but they're full showing little if any wear.

Boker USA, made in Maplwood, NJ. All Boker USA barlows were stamped that way. 1960's to 70's. Delrin handles, carbon steel blades.

Great find, and in good shape for EDC. I have the 492, which is the same as yours, but has a spear main blade instead of the clip yours has. One of my favorite Barlows.

Yup, that old barlow was made in my home state of N.J., maybe 25 miles or so from where I grew up. To this day, most flea markets I haunt looking for knives have tons of Boker U.S.A. knives, and mostly on the cheap. Always a good work knife, esp. the electricians models.
