The EXODUS begins.....

Said farewell to some knives today. Surprisingly, l did not feel the pain l thought l would. I was comforted by the fact that they were going to a good friend and who would appreciate them.
The funds will go to help pay for my wife's funeral. Hopefully my 25th Anniversary Trans Am will have a new owner tomorrow or Friday and no more knives will need to be sold. Or maybe it is time to completely divest. Time will tell.

Praying for comfort and peace Ray. Hopefully you can retain your amazing collection.

Ray, my heart aches for you and what you're going through. I'd encourage you to take a breath before putting any more of your goods up for sale. Is there any real rush?

Phil gives good advice. Having been a Financial Advisor for 26 years and having been a pastor for 30 years, I can tell you that it’s never a good idea to make decisions that are this impactful while you are grieving. Let the emotions settle down and then reassess the situation down the road. Things aren’t as bleak as they seem now and you won’t find yourself regretting these decisions.
I hope and pray for you to find peace and joy in the midst of sorrow.

As with all of us, I hope the next time you walk into a favorite stop of yours, you will find an absolute gem of a knife to restore your collector's heart and soul! God be with you!

Sadly there is Phil. Without going into a lot of detail, l am unable to access our bank account due to my name not on it! I cannot obtain a loan as l have no credit rating and havent had a credit card since 1992. The only tangible assets l have are my 2 cars and my knives. Believe me when l say this was not what l wanted to do! But l cannot let my wifes remahns sit in a funeral home indefinitely. I have faith l am doing the correct thing but thanks for your input.

Just returned from the bank and all the financial problems have been ironed out! Funds have been transferred and the funeral & grave opening & closing expenses paid! I believe either the prayers were answered or my wife is already on the job up there! Thank you ALL for your help!

Ray, you may need to go to your local courthouse with a copy of your wife's death certificate so you can get a Letter of Qualification to get you access to your bank accounts. At least that's how it works in Virginia. Sorry to read this and condolences.
I recommend to everyone to have both your name and your spouse's name on everything (bank accounts, investments, real and personal property, etc.) to avoid Probate taxes and delays. And it wouldn't hurt to have a child or grandchild of age included if there's one you can trust.

Hard enough coping with this loss, let alone the financial burden. God bless Ray.

Glad you were able to iron our your current financial issues, Ray. That's the last thing you needed to worry about.
As to your knives, they are just things, yes, and can be sold nearly as easily as they were acquired. But I am sure that other than your wife and family, knives were also something that brought you joy. Let's hope you can hold onto them as long as you would like to.
