All About Pocket Knives

I have not seen this one before. I don`t know what model it was. Must have been chromed after the bending was done but who the heck would want that in the field. Leather is old and hard.

Lets suppose it was the 1960s, give or take a decade, bayonets were dirt cheap in army surplus stores, and like me you had traded some forgotten item for a baynonet with a roughly 17" blade. Next suppose that like me an uncle invited you to go deer hunting next fall and your metal shop teacher loved students making hunting knives out of scrap. It was given some curve for skinning. Every small city had an auto body repair shop with chrome plating tanks. It's not hard to imagine its owner being offered a chance to plop it in with a batch of bumpers. Free hunting knife and an A for your shop project.

So did you get a deer or not

I remember buying a surplus Argentine bayonet with an 16" blade. Very cheap from a military surplus catalog. I cut off the barrel loop and the J guard and sharpened it so I could use it as a machete. Looks like someone had similar idea for yours. The only problem is that those blades are too thick for a good machete or skinning knife.

No, not on my first hunting trip. I made a knife out of a broken power hack saw blade that my shop teacher had saved for that purpose. The long bayonet I owned for a while was Japanese. I never altered it.

I don`t remember a lot from back in the day. kinda like mom thats 95 i remember little bits like sitting with gandpa in the early 60s on green rocking chairs and him cutting his finger nails with a little pocket knife and explaining how it had to be sharp or something. He then gave me three knives i took home and threw at trees till the scales fell off or I missed the tree and lost them. I do have a couple metal detectors and there most still there 100 miles away . might go see what the are just for the hell of it. or just sit here and pour another drink
