All About Pocket Knives

I'm not much of a "collector", instead, if I want a particular type of switchblade, I make it myself, that way I get exactly what I want. My interest in switchblades is very specific, and I make knives based on those specific interests. I guess you could say that I collect my own work. There's nothing quite like the pride and satisfaction of making your own.

Below is a sample of my work, I've made 23 switchblades in total. I realized I've been on this forum a few years now but I haven't shown much of my work here.

As is often the case with collections, knives come and go. Several of these have been sold. Although I originally had no intentions of selling any of these knives, when someone offered me a large sum of money for one of them, that showed me how much they really wanted it, and I liked the idea that someone else would treasure my work that much. I take a lot of pride and satisfaction in that as well.

How do you make your own blades?

Blades are not particularly hard to make-if you are a knifemaker.

I’m blown away, I’ve seen some you’ve posted in the past but did not know you were the maker. Fabulous work, very impressive.

Very neat. Thanks for showing. I know you have videos and pictures that show the inside of the autos you have made out of the Cold Steel Ti-Lite style knife. Are there similar views inside the other knives? I would be interested.

I appreciate your interest in the inner workings of my knives.

The Ti-lite conversions were a special case. I specifically wanted those knives to be as easy as possible to take apart and reassemble, in case parts ever needed replacing. That was always one of the characteristics of my "dream stiletto switchblade".

As for the other knives, although they are constructed with screws, I never intended for them to be casually disassembled.

However, I do have some pics of the internal workings of some of the knives I posted here. I also have some pics of some of the mechanical features I made for them. Perhaps you will find these pics of interest .

These are pics of the first safety I made. It's basically a retracting bolt design. It's incorporated into the bolster (solid stainless steel bolster). When the knob is pushed forward the bolt is retracted into the bolster, when the knob is pulled down the bolt extends and wedges over the sear preventing it from rising.




Here are a few custom rockers that I made for two of the knives pictured.




Here is a lock release lever I made. I used this design on three of the knives pictured. It can be seen in one of my knife videos. The pivot for the lever also serves as a blade stop when the knife is closed.





This is a lock release I designed. It utilizes a stainless steel tab that moves back and forth across a channel in the back of the bolster (the bolster is solid stainless steel). When the front end of the tab is pressed with ones thumb, the rear end of the tab pushes the lock away from the blade. The pivot passes through the tab, holding it in place. Whether the knife is open or closed the lock maintains forward pressure on the tab, keeping it at the ready, and preventing it from rattling (I don't allow any rattle in any of my knives).

This lock release can be seen in one of my videos.
