1955 George Rose catalog

Great old catalog. Although the catalog shows a picklock with the Wandy stamp it’s doubtful Rose was selling Wandy knives. More than likely he just cut the image of the stilettos from another catalog and used the cut out image to use for his own. He was the king of cut and paste. His catalogs were like an old ransom some note. lol
George was pretty specific listing which brand was being sold. And he doesn’t mention Wandy anywhere.

Neat Skinny eared Wandy stiletto in that first ad…. Maybe before the “Rosco” propriety stamp .

It’s after the Rosco stamp was being used.
The Wandy stiletto image was cut out of a 1950s MM catalog. Wandy was one of their few MM proprietary stamps.

who created or drew the image of the stiletto knife that they used in the catalog , was the image sent to George Rose by the Italian company he was working with or did he or someone in his company make the image ? im thinking the image may have been sent to george with the wandy stamped blade so thats what he used for his catalog ???

The image with the Wandy stamp is cut out of the mid-1950s Mauro Mario catalog.
George Rose’s catalog designers cut out the image from the MM catalog and used it for their Rose catalog. It great to see as it shows a connection with Mauro Mario. But other years it’s possible they sold other brands too as we see other stamps on their knives.
You can get really specific these days if you see all the paper. It’s incredible.
I have a 1958 MM catalog and it shows Wandy stamps and I see various models from at least 5 families.

Here is the 1951 Rose catalog we discovered. It shows they were selling Latama before they got their own stamp. And later catalogs show different stamps.
The more we discover the more questions sometimes. Can’t describe an entire history with a “yes.”

wow didnt know Mauro mario had a catalog . man alot of this stuff is hard to get right but with the right paper work anythings possible . by the way i have i think is this 1955 George Rose catalog , it is super thick , someone on the forum was selling copies around 20 years ago and i bought one i still have it .

That was Peter B “The Master.” He lived near me. I remember when he got that 1955 catalog with the original order forms.
Congrats on getting his copy. I just started the hobby a couple years before that.
He sold his entire collection to Walt for Walt to get his first Latama website off the ground. One neat knife in that collection was a fish picklock with a Monkey hanging upside down with a Banana. Super funny bad ass stamp. I handled all those knives before he sold them to Walt.

How many catalogs did George Rose put out in that time period 51-67 ? was there a new one every year ?

Yes nearly every year, 1 per year in the 1950s. In the 1960s sometimes a Spring, Summer and Fall version.
I buy every one I find even if they are doubles or triples. I buy them all before anyone sees them.
I even have the Rose side company catalogs that Lee Harvey Oswald used to buy the .38 revolver revolver he used to shoot officer JD Tippit at the Texas theater the day Oswald shot JFK.

Summer 1966. The satisfaction you get from finding something unseen is amazing.
Eventually it will all be organized nice and neatly in my books and will be available for collectors until the end of time.
I’ll make you copies of some cool things and send your way. I have to be careful with the paper I have. Many people in the hobby act all nice to me and then steal my research and claim it as their own. Embarassing and no couth. I could point out people online who have stolen my work but it best to rise above it and be happy
Sad but that’s how people are in the hobby. There is so little Italian paperwork that when they see it they start foaming at the mouth and take it as their own.
