All About Pocket Knives

Over the years we’ve been force fed many (wrong) stories about the company in Italy called “Mauro Mario.”

Does anyone have factual information on this company?

Does anyone know the true name of the company?

When it started and by whom and when?

Where was their office was located?

Who ran the company?

Who did they order knives from?

Which proprietary stamps did they use?

Which importer stamps did they use?

I know there is wrong outdated information from a few wrong sources so I’m looking to find facts. Not poorly translated and poorly researched info from 25 years ago.

Plz no quotes from old forums, Switchblads Of Italy or any old quotes from the Campolin family. Documented facts only.

man you may be trying to find info that simply dont exist , i would think Angelo Campolin jr would probably be able to provide the best info , theres probably not much documentation kept in Italy or elsewhere but you you never know keep searching you just may find all the ansers to your questions .

Thanks, you’ve been in the hobby for many years. You’re probably seen just about all there is to see in this hobby.

I have answers to most of these questions but I like to cross reference my finds and sources. No man is an island. So much has been said in this hobby with zero evidence. So finding factual evidence is my goal.

I spoke with Angelo a couple times. He said “you’re the greatest researcher there is. You’re like 007 uncovering mysteries. I find it funny I have to write someone in the USA to find out information on my grandfather…”

Neat little bit of info. They were not located in Maniago throughout the 1950s. They were in Udine a neighboring town.

There is a great untold story with the brother who exported knives through the 1950s and early 1960s.

I know of at least 5 different families that supplied knives to MM. So many layers and details that you can’t fit into a paragraph or two.

It’s all about the minutia as they say in the legal field.

Any information on who owned that BB stamp ? The consensus WAS MM but as you say “minutia” may be leading to that assumption. Lol

According to some people MM made everything. lol. There’s so much wrong info out there it’s sad.

I have an old 1950s black and white photo of a knife makers display and all the knives are stamped with the large
MADE IN ITALY. The exact style stamp before they actually started marking them Black Beauty.

Over 60 families made stilettos in the 1950s. But all you hear about are 3. There are some amazing individual stories and then collectively the full story.

People have said so much in this hobby with nothing but hearsay. Very little of the speculation is valid.
