Peanuts!

Earlier this year I started buying an occasional Peanut knife. I decided to post some of them with a few comments. I am posting this in the Chinese-made knives Forum, though not all of the knives I intend to post here are Chinese. Feel free to add your knife if you like.

Peanuts are smaller than any knife I have wanted to collect until recently but one day I just decided that I wanted some. One thing about the Peanuts: if I ever have to move to move, I can fit a whole collection into one matchbox! First up is a Bulldog. Made in China, of course. It kind of hurts to see that name on a Bulldog. I think that Frost owns the name now. The knife is well made with horn handles.

Here is a nice USA made Peanut. I am not too familiar with Walden Knife Co. I seem to recall that it was formed by Schrade employees after Schrade closed, but I could be wrong about that. I do not think they stayed in business for very long.

Don't miss out on those Case Tadpoles.
They may be smaller that you care for but they are little dandys at 2 1/2".

Thanks, Joe. Interesting photo of the Tadpole and Peanut. I did not realize that the Tadpole is smaller than the Peanut. Just looking at Ebay, the Tadpoles seem to command a very high price. I assume they have been out of production for a while. I will have to get lucky and find a cheap one if I wind up any Tadpoles!

Here is one of my Case Peanuts alongside a Case Fish Knife. These utilitarian knives have the same flat yellow handles and flat bolsters. The Fish Knife has been pretty heavily used for over a decade, the Peanut is pretty much brand new.

Great pictures of some very nice knives.
The Case fish knives are very cool.

Just curious, who makes the 3 inch rule?

Here is another Peanut with a venerable old name: Miller Bros. The handles are some kind of horn. As with the Bulldog, I think this knife is made for the Frost Family.

Here are a couple of Peanuts from the past. Camillus and Imperial. Plenty of patina on these.

Thanks, Steve. That Peanut is the only Walden knife that I have. It is, as you say, sweet. Makes me want to keep an eye out for other Walden Co knives to see if they are equal quality.

Here is a Queen City. This is a very nice little knife with pretty decent MOP.

Looks very much like Rams Horn.

You are probably right about that. I do not think it is cattle horn, and rams horn is the only other horn I know that is used for knife handles.

Water Oak acorns have been falling thick and fast in my area for a couple of weeks. Here is a Rough Ryder Peanut with some acorns.

Here is a 3" Queen. Just the kind of thing I like to find under the Christmas tree!

Still in keeping with the Christmas theme, here is a Steel Warrior.

Just seven days until Christmas, fellows!

When I am cutting fruit I like a knife that is size and color appropriate for the task at hand. This Rough Ryder and Case seem right for the Strawberries and Kumquats. I learned something about the steel in that Case. I cut the Kumquats, took a few photos, and cleaned the knives. Total elapsed time about five minutes. But it that five minutes the blade on my Case took a bit of patina that does not want to polish away. Kumquats are a Citrus, and very acidic based on the taste.

This Steel Warrior seems to be a well made knife. Fit and finish are good, walk and talk are excellent.

Here are a couple of photos of an old Schrade. I suppose just seeing that I still have stuff like those old wrenches in my toolbox indicates that I am getting old.
