Old Bakelite items can be melted and re-formed. Many distributor caps were Bakelite.

TY for the responses. I've since went to eBay and see that you can buy Bakelite rods, etc. What I was thinking was actual knife handle material that is maybe 4" x 1" or so. I bought an old bayonet and read that many of those handles are made of Bakelite and was going to restore them but have since decided to go another direction with the project. If anyone is looking for handles these are on eBay. I don't know if they are Bakelite or not.
