All About Pocket Knives

Hello Everyone, I stumbled across this pocket knife in a $5.00 fixer-upper box. I bought it because it looked old. Imagine my surprise when, After cleaning it up to the point where I could open the blades, I saw a pre-WWII Flat blade screwdriver blade like the ones found on early Signal Corps electrician knives. The main blade is anybody's guess; could have been a spear point blade that has been re-profiled, or it could have been a warncliffe or sheepsfoot blade that has also been altered. The tang stamp has been pretty well obliterated due to corrosion, but if you really look closely you can make out a circle (Remington??).
I am very interested to hear if anybody can positively identify the maker, model number, and approximate year of manufacture.

Hello, I have an update...after some more cleaning I found an honest to God Remington UMC tang stamp on the punch/awl blade. The screwdriver balde is too corroded to see anything. So, now that I'm pretty sure that this is a Remington knife, can somebody please tell me what model the knife is and about when it was sold.

Looks like an R4713 pattern. The 4713 has that blade combination but it has a sheepfoot master blade, which yours may have had before improper sharpening changed it to more of a spear, and left it with blade peek. The unusual thing is that a Remington with a punch almost always has an acorn shield. However the cut shown in the 1931 catalog has a federal shield. I doubt yours has much value given its condition. For $5 if it has walk and talk I probably would have bought it too.

Unfortunately it looks like all the regular Remington collectors that use to frequent this web site are now on Fakebook

I believe the R4713 was called a Radio knife , for working on old tube radios , great find and I believe pretty rare .

For reference, an image of an original Remington R4713 is attached. This knife is commonly referred to as an Electrician's knife. Remington used this pattern as an advertising knife. There is a version made for the Cunningham Radio Tube company that uses a shield that resembles an old vacuum tube.
