All About Pocket Knives

Life existed before AAPK and it will exist after. I can find no place to formally relinquish my membership here, so this is it. I would ask someone but I am sure someone would tell me to research it yourself. I am not the brightest knife person but I recognize when someone is telling me that I am not and do not appreciate it. So to paraphrase the first sentence - life existed before me and it will exist after.

I understand your reasoning. There are definitely some members here who either snub and/or belittle those not in their circle of whatever. But there are also good people who accept people as they are and are welcoming and receptive to the peccadillos of others. There are good people and bad people, and AAPK is a microcosm of current societal attitudes. It is my belief that everyone here has something to offer and hate to see anyone leave. I, personally, have increased my knife knowledge by reading the forum posts, asking questions and researching interesting topics that arise. But as I said, I understand your decision but hope you might reconsider sooner or later. Your knowledge and insights will be missed.

I have been here thirteen years, and I have not seen that. There is an enormous amount of knowledge among the members at AAPK. In my experience folks here share their knowledge or opinions freely and without condescension. There have been occasions where folks let anger show, but very few. More often, an attempt at humor or satire does not work: I have been guilty of that.

In my opinion, Timdog set the tone for the post that sent him packing. I am sorry to see him leave in anger, but he was just as rude to the first person to reply to his question as the person who told him to do his own research was to him.

When you ask for information about something, and someone takes the time to give you the information, you should be thankful. If you don’t like the answer that’s on you, not the person who gave what you requested.

Sorry to see any member leave but, it happens. One of the shortcomings of the printed word is not being able to see the facial expressions or hear the tone of voice of the writer. If your feelings are hurt, the benefit of the doubt is usually in order. JMO. Too often I have written a post only to have it misinterpreted as something never intended.

I have been a member for 19+ years. Some things are different now, back a few years it was mostly older knives, some customs. It was and still is a place to learn. I have enjoyed AAPK, and made some good friends. Have even got to meet some at shows. Thanks Harold

HEY!!! I find that offensive!!!!!

Technically what the OPer has is a log in, not a membership. A membership is a paid bronze, silver, or gold level of support for the AAPK website. In going back and reading thru his posts, he has taken offense at several answers he has received from his questions.

I always find it curious when someone who wants to quit AAPK bothers to announce it on the forum. If you want to quit all you have to do is stop reading and posting, end of story, no announcement required. What's the point or purpose of making an announcement? Is it like a suicide note that's written so others will feel sorry for him or to make those who offended him feel guilty?

I think "timdog44" was commenting more on the lack of a "delete account" option rather than penning a "suicide note". Though it is true one can stop reading and posting, but that is like stopping smoking. I think most former smokers will understand the difference in "stopping" and "quitting". But hey, as Dennis Miller used to say, "Of course that's just my opinion, I could be wrong."

of all the various knife forums on the internet, this one is the friendliest, especially to newcomers. Some other ones seem to run people off with torches and pitchforks. I believe the comments that started this were meant to be helpful, but were construed to be interpreted as criticism. I hope he sticks around, the more knife people the better.

I agree as far as the guys that come looking for validation on some piece that they've bought or inherited
But when one of the old heads leaves us due to health problems or whatever it'd be nice to say goodbye, but that just me.

Yep, two completely different scenarios. My comment was in regard to the OP's departure announcement and others who quit AAPK with hurt feelings for a perceived offense.

Excellent point, Q. Some folks just do not go quietly into that good night. I am not certain that Timdog recognized the difference between posts intended as helpful and those intended to be offensive. I have looked over his posts, and it seems to me that he was quick to construe a reply as an attack.

I'd had been disappointed with a couple of golf forums that showed very little respect to people and my big red one forum went to facebook, so after visiting for some time and enjoying the banter and the knowledge and the respect of you fine people I decided to come in and sit a spell aint never regreted it.

Major drama queen from the start. He wouldn't last 10 seconds on a shooting forum I'm a member of. He posted an ad on ebay for a GEC that was all wrong, then came here for clarification, which we gave him, which seemed to offend for some unknown reason. Probably should refil his Zanax script.

In a fit childish rancor I wanted to give up my membership here. I have thought over and decided that I will not learn anything by not being here. I did go back and review my posts and did not see where I was rude to anyone. I believe I was appreciative of all the sage advice and comments. I made some errors in descriptions in my haste to get to some answers. From that I learned to take my time posting and replying. I apologize for my childishness.
