Westaco knife with deep etched blade

I picked up this Westaco knife, it's rough condition. The blade is deeply marked Chas. H. Marshall Ambridge Penna 1938. I'm curious about how the "etching " was done. It looks to deep for acid etching and looks to fancy for engraving and letters being in cursive . Any thoughts how it was done? I also do ancestry and was able to locate the Great Grand Daughter of Charles H. Marshall and will be shipping the knife to her.
