All About Pocket Knives

I am considering making an offer on this Camillus Scout knife. I don’t know that much about the Camillus brand but I don’t recall seeing this exact model before. That’s really not saying much. There could be a million of them out there and maybe this is the first time I’ve seen one.

The shield and the Delrin covers are giving me pause. I didn’t post this in the Counterfeit section because I don’t really have a reason to think it’s a fake but I want to make sure of that before I make an offer.

Good morning Rick. After a little checking I think you are good to go on this utility / camp knife. Not real versed in Camillus newer knifes ,but don’t see anything wrong with this one . It was made before 2007 when camillus shut down . It looks to be in good condition.

Good point. I was thinking that too. I guess I really just wanted to know if it was made by some company who bought the Camillus name after they shut down and Ripster confirmed that it wasn’t.

I guess the "you know who" will fake anything for a buck. J.O'.

There was a Camillus Pearl handled Cattle knife w/ etch that just sold for 515.00 . The main blade had the old arch stamp w/ CATTLE KNIFE etch . The etch looked newer and very few old Camillus had Pearl, especially Cattle knives . That one looked too nice and really wish I could have got it in hand and looked it over . The older Whittlers also should be scrutinized ,the prices are getting up there and do believe we are only going to see more ,let’s say , reworked old Camillus as well.

Please define "older." I think the only worry buying 1980 and newer Camillus knives is ignorantly buying Camillus branded knives that were made by someone else after Camillus closed. That might be the same with knives made back to about 1960? I found a Wal-Mart Camillus fixed blade with blade steel so soft that I think it was not lost but thrown into the brush in discust. 1980s and newer real Camillus knives which is what I think Railsplitter bought are still good value as tools.

I guess the current moral turpitude in our world and our hobby should keep us all on guard. Too bad. What a sickening disappointment it is to be taken in by fakers. Sadly, I know the feeling. J.O'.
