All About Pocket Knives

Here is a Schrade SC524, the knife made for the scrimshaw version of the 123OT.
I love the 4” size. It gives a lot of cutting power in a smaller size knife.
I rehandled it with Amber Stag from Culpepper’s. I am impressed with their quality.

I was playing with a variation of vine filework. What do you think?

PS- The scratches are on the glass of my scanner, not the knife.

That's some really nice looking stag Dale The filework is nice, it's more....I dunno, "leafy" than your average vine pattern. I kinda like it. Looks like it would fit in your hand real nice

I like it too Dale. Leafy is a good way to describe it.

I think the filework looks kind of "flamey"...I like it. Rounding off the corners of the vine makes it flow very nicely.

It is always a hard call to know where to start & stop filework. I don't like to get too close to the ends, for fear that it may weaken the ends of the spring & it may break, even though this rarely happens to me.
I usually start my filework at the hole for the rocker pin. I center the hole in the spring between the two deep cuts on either side, so I don't make a deep cut into the spring hole. That may cause problems, as that is where the spring is stressed the most.

I start at the rocker pin hole and work out, until it looks right to stop.

I hadn't noticed right off that the file work was truncated at the bolster....on taking a second look, it seems to balance the knife nicely..

I'll have to try that..
