Found her after 4years!

Finally found her after 4 years and pretty happy! I bought this Benchmade as a gift to myself in 1999. I carried it pretty much every day for work until I retired in 2021. Right after I retired I went on vacations and when I got back I couldn't find the knife. I thought for sure I left it in a hotel room, called and no luck. Searched (almost) everywhere, no luck. I was really bummed. Fast forward yesterday, the wife was throwing away some old luggage and found it hiding under a tear in the liner! We had searched that suitcase many times before and used it many times over the years and it had stayed hidden. Anyways, just wanted to share. I think ill retire it now and just carry for special occasions. It really did feel better when I found it than when I first bought it.

No doubt. It would have ended up in the trash and I would have never known.

Similar thing happened to me. When I returned from a trip I couldn’t find a knife I thought had put into a checked bag. Decided I had lost it somewhere. We went several places by car and used that suitcase. Then I went on another trip by plane and used that bag as a carry-on. TSA found the missing knife when it showed up on their carry-on luggage X-ray. ::facepalm:: It had slid down to the very bottom, along the seam of the luggage. If it’s a knife and it’s in your carry-on luggage, TSA X-Ray will find it! ::nod::

(I didn’t want to give TSA the knife, so had to go back and check the bag. PITA. But at least I found the knife.)

Well that's at least one way to find it It's amazing the places they can hide lol

ALWAYS a good day when that prodigal knife reappears and decides to say "hi" again. Glad you've been reunited with your bestie. ::tu:: ::nod::

TSA is always a PITA! I no longer fly because of TSA agent attitude. Although I will say a TSA supervisor was very helpful when I lost my Passport at BWI. That is my only positive TSA interaction.

It's good it was your wife that found it in that tear in the luggage and not a TSA agent!

I travel a lot, used to fly even more before I retired. I agree that airport security is a PITA. I’ve only encountered one TSA agent with an “attitude”. Most are just doing their job as best they can (and dealing with a lot of jerks). Over the years I’ve learned regardless of the circumstances, a smile and friendly attitude will usually get you reciprocal treatment. ::nod::

The agent who found my knife was a nice guy. Had to send the bag through X-Ray 3 times to pinpoint its location. We could see it on X-Ray but the first two times we couldn’t find it in the luggage. After finally digging it out of my suitcase he said “Nice knife, but you can’t take it on the plane. What do you want to do with it?” Gave me the options to turn it over to TSA, go back to the counter and check it, or take it back to my vehicle.” Giving it up, or returning to my vehicle (I didn’t have time or would have missed the flight) were not viable options.

Seems strange now but I still long for the days when you could just show up and walk onto the plane.

I Know that thing has been checked in a least once but I guess as long as it wasn't carry on they didn't care.

No doubt. I really do hate to fly anymore. I'm less tired and stressed after driving 3 days than flying for one.

I own that very knife and have sent it back to Benchmade once to get it fixed and I love the knife and I loved their service.
