All About Pocket Knives

I’m a taxidermist and one of my customers is the president of our state’s game warden association. He was in the shop yesterday picking up a bird I mounted for his nephew. While we were visiting, knives got brought up and he asked if I knew about the German made Puma Game Warden knife. I had never heard of it. He said if there was one at their annual banquet there would be a bidding war! Each year I donate a duck mount to their banquet but the wheels started turning and I thought about shopping for the knife and maybe donating that instead of my usual bird mount.

That thought has led me to look at multiple sale sites, reading threads here and on another forum and trying to locate info on their history and difference in models, dates, country of manufacture, etc. on multiple websites. I’m finding these Puma knives to not be so cut and dry!

Is there a website that I’m overlooking that could help give me a push start into learning about the Puma Game Warden? I’m particularly interested in knowing when they started being made outside of Germany and what all options or customization each model has. Also, I see new, current knives go for the $100 range while others made in the 70’s for example that can fetch over $1000. Then, some going for $1000 don’t look much different than some in the $200 range…

If I were to try to purchase one, I want to be up to speed on a quality piece, made in Germany and hopefully be nice enough for the game warden association to be able to raise some good money off of it. I’d love to be able to make a nice presentation for it and include some of the historical info on the knife. Any guidance on this mission would be much appreciated! Thank you all!

When he said there would be a bidding war, he's talking about the vintage Puma's that bring good money. The 60's, 70's and early 80's made knives. If you buy a new one for $100, it will only go for about $90 at the charity auction.

Thank you for those links Skip. I checked out most all of those pages today and learned an awful lot. I feel a lot better regarding the pricing as well. Rookie, I see what you’re saying exactly on the new models and agree. I appreciate both of your input, thank you!
