Slot knives

How to take apart a KaBar slot knife (hobo)? I was thinking you should open a blade. Harold

Try opening various blades halfway, then holding the covers to slide the frame apart. Most have two or three blades so one of them will be the release, but it needs to be in the halfway open position. The fork at half open should let the fork side slide out, likewise the spoon at half open should let the spoon side slide. Leaving the center (knife).
Just reverse the process to re-assemble it (each has to be half open, then closing them locks it).

Still have 3 slot knives, I couldn’t remember exactly how they worked. I have taken slot knives apart many times just forget exactly how. Thanks Harold

For safety reasons it’s not usually the knife. You would not want to be trying to push the knife apart while having a sharp blade open!
For an example here’s one of mine.

I have five KA-BAR slot knives, none of them need to open any blade or spoon to separate the utensils. The only one I have seen with a locking blade was a Robeson.

Now i'm hungery. The fork is for pie. The spoon is for ice cream. The knife is for cutting fruit into small chunks for topping.

Thanks for that enlightenment, Gene. Sometime along the way I was told the parts were unlocked/locked by moving the blades, so I never tried it without doing so. After reading your post I tried sliding mine apart without opening any blades, and it works.
I only have two KA-BARs, but next time I dig out my Case hobo I’ll try it also.

You're quite welcome Ken! I have the smaller ones like shown above and the large Dogs Head models and neither have any type of locking mechanism. I would bet your Case has no locking mechanism too. Of the American made slot knives as I said I think only a Robeson one had a locking system.
