All About Pocket Knives

I have a beautiful little Remington R/985 I believe is dated 1920’s to 1930 with green pyrite scales.
Anyone know the value?

Looking at eBay sold listings for “Remington pocket knife pyremite” it’s a crap shoot. They have been sold for everywhere from $5 up to $165 depending on condition. (Yours has a lot of wear). I didn’t do a scientific study but the median sale looks like around $50. I think a lot of collectors shy away from celluloid (Remington’s pyremite is celluloid) which depresses the market. Looks like old Remingtons with bone handle covers bring a lot more.

Dandy looking old Remington. Seems to me the premryte scales are less prone to gassing than other forms of celluloid . But unfortunately still happens, too bad cause it’s pretty material.

It’s lasted almost 90 years and still looks great

I love that celluloid, reminds me of a topo map.

sure is a good looking substance and your knife has held up
very well.

There appears to be a few different types of celluloid that have been used for knife scales,
Some of them have gassed out from neglect.
