All About Pocket Knives

I just inherited my fathers favorite pocket knife; a Schrade Old Timer.
I would like to know what year it was made.
The only markings are; 80T.
It has a rectanular fingernail slot on one blade but half moon slots on two baldes.
Any info will be much appreciated, thanks.

Collectors try to determine when a knife was made by the stamps on the tang area. Compare the stamp to those shown in old catalogs, or the manufacturer literature. Many cutleries (like Schrade) did not change their stamps often, nor did they date code their products. As you can see the stamp with Schrade U.S.A. was in use for about 30 years, from 1973-2004, so determining an exact year within that range isn’t possible.

BTW that “rectangular fingernail slot” is called a “long pull”, or sometimes a “French pull”. Two different names for the same thing. Great to have a family heirloom. You’re fortunate to have it.

So fortunate you are to have your fathers pocket knife.
It is an old popular Stockman pattern called 8-OT by Schrade.
The Stockman pattern was made by many manufactures.
It has Delrin covers. (handles)
It has been properly sharpened and cared for.
You have a very nice knife there.
