All About Pocket Knives

I'm trying to restore a few old sheaths for some old hunting knives and one old German made Arkansas Toothpick...From Germany? Yeah, Same here. Anyway. The sheaths are all old and show their age. The keeps or keeper straps or whatever the snappy part that keeps them from falling out when we are playing Tarzan and hanging upside down in a tree. I have some new leather. But new leather won't look right. I'm trying really hard not to cut up my old boots. But it may come to that. I don't need it dry rotted or brittle. I just need about 18-24" strip or square/rectangle that I can cut strips out of. Light tan preferred. I can make it darker easier than the other way. No purple or cheetah print...No fur. No rot. Now I'm missing my horse riding days. I always had plenty of leather back then. Please let me know what you can spare and how I can get it moving this way. Oh and PLEASE!!! No leather straps from your male stripper days.

Suggestion: Try second hand stores, flea markets, yard sales for old purses (lots of plastic out there)
and mens and womens boots.
Cheap leather coats?

I was going to suggest the same thing. Thrift for leather stuff. Tool sheaths and holsters or belts.

Thanks... I.m severely disabled and can't do much shopping anymore. My right leg is paralyzed. I get around short distances with a cane or walker. But I can only really shop in places with those little scooter things. I have a ton of belts. But none look very aged. BUT...Something I hadn't thought of, I do have a gazillion old rifle slings. Of course they are way too thick. But that's what sanders are for...sort of. Thanks again, guys.

Seems like distressing what you already have would be best.

I just saw this topic, but if you still need some old leather, I think I can help you. I have an abundance of old sheath! Some of them are in good enough shape that you could probably cut a strap from them.
