I’m new to the forum and was wondering if there’s a list of eBay counterfeit knife sellers posted somewhere. I understand those folks change their names often, but every little bit helps.
Thanks!

I believe there’s a list of eBay sellers that are members here & I also believe that there’s a list of sellers to avoid, but I don’t know of a list specifically for those sellers that deal in fakes. Sorry but I don’t know how to attach a short cut here. You may be able to find them under the search tab and search list. Yes that’s very vague and you may have a lot of digging to do from there.

I was able to find one of the forums. Try searching
eBay no go dealers. This should help a little.

I know one ebay dealer who is a member here that I would not trust to buy a knife from, being a member here is no guarantee they are honest on ebay.

I’m not aware of a “list” of sellers to avoid. Like you’ve said, once they become known they change their eBay handles. Some of the more notorious ones, like “myrtlefaye” and “tommygg101” have apparently either sold out or changed names. Depending on your interests there are sellers of counterfeit “traditional” old knives, and there are sellers of counterfeit modern tacticals. Some Chicom sellers specialize in counterfeiting the work of higher end modern knives. If in doubt, don’t bid - keep your money.

You should take the time to read through the posts on the Counterfeit Watch forum here. A few sellers to avoid are mentioned in some of the posts, but more importantly are some good lessons in what to look for and avoid in the knives themselves. If you know that, you’ve largely won the battle.

There are sellers who mostly or exclusively deal in fakes. There are others who sell both fakes and good honest knives. Don’t fall for the eBay seller ratings - those are based mostly on simply shipping quickly. And even the most honest-intentioned seller can occasionally list a fake, just simply because they don’t know it’s fake. Your best defense is knowing yourself how to identify counterfeits.

There might be some real hazzards involved in publishing such a list and publishing should probably be avoided.

What Ray said. A person could get sued for liable. Best keep a list like that off the Internet.

I’ve been collecting knives since 1964 and most of my buying started in 1999 when I discovered eBay. In the early days, it was a cornucopia for a buyer and rarely did a deal go bad. That all changed about a decade ago and the serious knife collectors that I know rarely visit and almost never from eBay anymore.

So for me and my little circle of collectors, the need for such a list does not exist anymore. YMMV

My suggestion is to post any and every knife you have doubts about in the counterfeit watch thread, or even if you're pretty sure but it's an expensive knife. The folks here like any pictures of knives to look at, even better if there's questions or the possibility for discussion attached. There's guys here who literally "wrote the book" as they say. There simply isn't a better source for knife information anywhere on the web.

Well, I am glad that a lot of "non-serious" knife collectors still look for and buy knives on eBay.
