I posted in the Schrade forum and I was referred to this section for a possible answer. I found a few websites that sell nos blades, pins, shields etc. from when Schrade USA went out of business. I was wondering if there is any websites that sell nos springs?

Basically I'm looking for the springs to some of the knife blanks that are sold on Discount Cutlery. The ones that don't have any tang stamps. They don't have model numbers listed so right now I'm unsure. The only thing some of the knife blanks have listed is like "BL685, S481, etc. When I google those I can't find out what they go to. I would like to start making knives with good American blades that don't break the bank as gifts for people. I'm trying to avoid Chinese components.

That is probably going to be a tough one to get a blade, spring, and the correct liners with bolsters to make a complete knife. I have a bag of Schrade parts with some springs, but I know the knives as 8 OT, 34 OT, and so on. Another thing that needs to be considered is are the blades you are looking at already heat treated? If not that adds another time consuming step to the process.

That’s how I know the knives as OT or UH. I figured it would be a pain to try and get most of the components. That’s one thing I never even considered was about the blades being heat treated. Oh well back to the drawing board.

I have bought several of those blades, and most of them have been heat treated and are ready to install. There are a few that are not ground, and I assume that they have not been heat treated as well, so I avoid those.
The numbers that they use appear to be internal catalog numbers for the website, and you are correct in that it relates to nothing from the Schrade company, as far as I know. Whenever I figure out what a blade fits, I write that down on a list that I have. It is incomplete, but I have identified a handful of the blades.
I use them to replace broken blades in Schrade knives. I don't believe that I would use them to build a knife from scratch, personally, but with enough work you could probably do so.

Thank you for replying I appreciate it. By the way I'm a fan of your YouTube channel. A few months ago I sent you a carbide lamp and a few other things. I look forward to your videos keep up the good work.

That was you?!!!
I don't always mentally match up forum names with real names. I keep that carbide lamp where I can see it every day. And I need to use some of the wood that you gifted me on some knife handles soon.
Thanks again!
