All About Pocket Knives

I have a few knives made at the Olbertz factory in Germany. They are some of my favorite knives, so I would like to show them off and see what other folks have. And I would like to read any history or lore about the factory or knives. I debated whether to post this thread in the European-made knives forum. However, all of my Olbertz knives are branded with American names, so I decided that the General Knife Discussion forum might be better.

I will start with four knives. First, let me state that I do not know for a fact that all these knives were made by Olbertz. I am pretty sure that the Hickey, Bulldog, and Fight'n Rooster were made there. The Coles is similar quality, but I am not so certain about it.

Number one is a Whittler stamped KY. CUTLERY ASSOCIATION. I am pretty sure this knife was made by Olbertz for John W Hickey & sons of Louisville Kentucky. Number two is a Bulldog Whittler. I always love seeing that blade etch. I will add two more knives in my next post.

Those are a couple of pretty knives gotta say.

Number three is a Fight'n Rooster. Does Middle Tennessee Knife Collectors still exist? Number four is a knife stamped Coles. I am not certain that his knife was made by Olbertz. If anyone has information about it, I would like to see it. All four of these knives have really nice MOP handles. Here is a group shot. I know, or suspect, that a lot of you folks have some Olbertz knives in your collection. I would be interested to see what you hve.

What a lovely group of knives. And they are in mint condition!

Thanks, Swedgehead and Bob. Seems like a lot of these knives are in mint condition. I guess no one buys a MOP knife to use. I sure do not!

There does not seem to be much interest in this topic, but here is another This one is a gunstock pattern whittler with celluloid handles. No outgassing yet, but I think these modern German Fight'n Rooster celluloid knives are worse than the old knives when it come to outgassing. So I do keep it apart from my other Roosters. I really like that main blade. Kind of a cross between wharncliff and a lamb's foot. Notice the shield. I am guessing that they pressed hot metal into the celluloid.
