All About Pocket Knives

Hi,
I saw this blade on ebay. it is marked Cattaraugus Little Valley NY.
Can anyone match it to the pattern and show me the catalog picture.

I am a hobby slipjoint maker and love that blade shape I want to try making the pattern it goes with.

Someone else may recognize it, but looking through the two Cattaraugus catalog reprints I have, I don’t find any patterns having blades that look like it. It seems Catt did not make many patterns having long pulls - I did see a few but they’re all on long master blades, mostly spear blades but a couple of clips. Thus I have doubts that was a Cattaraugus blade but if it is, the patterns in the catalogs having secondary spear blades are whittlers. I could have missed one - sometimes the catalog cut images have partially obscured secondary blades, with pulls being on the pile side or they're not visible. I seriously doubt they would put a long pull blade on one secondary of a knife having conventional nail nicks on the other blade or blades.

The OP blade appears to me a kind of a hybrid clip/spey? Reminds me of the secondary on the BOSE/CASE
Collaboration stockman pattern (which doesn’t have a long pull).

Quite possibly it would work on this sowbelly I am working on, #32029 Are you bidding on it? Note: the blade in the 32029 I pictured on the left is not original to the knife and has a tang stamp that is not Cattaraugus.

Being that long pull blades are not necessarily the norm for old Cattaraugus knives the blade might be surplus from another company that was stamped as a Cattaraugus. I wouldn't worry about finding a match but would just design a frame that pleases you as much as the blade shape.

That blade shape looks like some modern slipjoint makers like Javi Garcia and Jared Oeser. I was surprised to see it on from a vintage company. I have no idea of the year just that the picture showed the Cattaraugus and Little valley marking.

I am going to ask the seller if he knows more about it.

I haven't put a bid on it. I'd just be getting it for a pattern. I would also draw it in cad and can use the laser to trace it onto steel. I would want half stops too. So if you want it by all means go after it. It was like $15. When I liked it I got an offer for $12

It looks like a short spey that is missing the final grind sharpening.
I don't know about it's legitimacy, but there are a ton of unused blades for old knives on ebay, and many of them have clearly been annealed at the tang (and halfway up the blade), and some have something that looks like clay stuck to them.
This one may be legitimate, but many of these NOS blades are not.

This seller has a lot of blades that look like they have no pivot hole drilled in them, or it isn't showing. I was wondering if they were taken apart from old knives by shearing the pivot pin or they were blades that haven't been drilled yet.

Of course, if you are simply copying a pattern or blade shape that you like, in order to make your own creation, then I suppose it really doesn't matter whether the thing is original or counterfeit.
I re-read your original post.

Am I wrong, or does the fact that the long pull runs into what appears to be a swedge seem odd?
