Custom "King" Sampler

Well, this baby started out as a very abused Western USA, 854 Utility hawkbill. All you southern gentlemen seem to really like your Cotton Samplers, so I tried it myself.

I just gave this poor knife a bit of a facelift. I'd really like to know what you think? Excuse the photos, the sun was just setting this evening as I snapped the shots.

Random Rope filework with a custom "king" shield (or Jughead shield?) cut out of my good old Canadian quarters. For the scales, I used some more of my latest favorite African exotic...just don't know what it's called.

I left some pitting on the blade for character (I really like the "somewhat used" look) and polished the rest. It will make a great EDC.

I tuned it for great walk and talk (and nice and level springs in open and closed position).

This one might already be spoken for, but if you are interested let me know with a PM and I'll inform you if it doesn't go where I think it might be. My biggest compliment is if people like to carry and use these creations. Nothing beats a good pocket knife in a good man's pocket.

Man, You are really innovative with converting that knife into a thing of beauty. Hey, I'll trade you some American quarters for Canadian, get more money for the Canadian ones.

Thanks again fellas - wondering if any of you have any criticisms you could offer? for example, does the shield detract from the knife, should the blade be mirror polished, is the scale shape correct, how about the blade?

Just looking to keep improving.

Thanks,
j

very nice

in my experience well fitted shields like yours add to the knife, cleaner blades do seem to do better for me, whether it be brushed, hand rubbed, or mirror polished.

Very nice! I just picked up an on Schrade Walden 136 Hawkbill thinking maybe I could find someone to clean it up somewhat along these lines. Again, very nicely done!
