IMPROVED SCHRADE TANG STAMP CHART

Here is an updated Schrade tang stamp chart that builds on the old one using the information and knowledge that’s bubbled to the surface over the last 20 years. The popular chart that collectors typically rely on was first published as part of an article in the June 2004 issue of Knife World. This new chart has altered date ranges which, most importantly, posits that stamp changes in the Cut Co days were overlapping and not done at a fixed point in time. The infamous Germany stamp has been removed to reflect the reality that nobody has ever actually seen one on a knife blade. Germany stamped scissors and straight razors are as close as anyone’s gotten. There is no paperwork or photos to support the existence of any German made Schrade Cut Co knives. In 1986 Sargent included a close-up photo of a Germany tang stamp in his guide and wrote (paraphrased): ‘around 1904 Schrade was unable to keep up with demand so they imported knives from Germany’ – but Sargent lets that statement stand on its own without offering a source. In fact, the only corroboration of his Germany claim seems to be the fact that it’s included in the 2004 KW article – which itself credits Sargent as the source of that information. Anyway, go ahead and download it, use it, share it – it’s good info based on what we “know” today. I’ll update this chart as new & better information becomes available. If you have some knowledge to contribute, please let me know!
