Can this be cleaned ?

Is it a hard glaze or is the damage sticky?

If it’s on the surface I’d start with a mild solvent like isopropyl alcohol and some elbow grease. Then if that doesn’t work try mineral spirits (not to beconfused with mineral oil). Last try something like GooGone (citrus oil based), GoofOff (acetone based) or other commercial adhesive or graffiti/marker remover. You may eventually have to resort to something mildly abrasive, like 0000 steel wool or very fine grit sandpaper or Emory cloth.

If it’s penetrated into the grain you may have to re-dye the covers, or just live with it. I have several knives damaged by being stored in a knife roll that could not be completely restored. (There were no celluloid knives involved - they were damaged by the materials used in making the knife roll). I just have to live with it (and cringe when I see them).

Are those handles rosweood or the smooth black Delrin? Western made that pattern in both. If it is faded Delrin, rubbing it with light oil like 3-in-one oil will return the original black color.
