All About Pocket Knives

Hi again

Posting to try and learn about what may or may not be a giveaway for a fake. To me this is immediately eye candy but those are with the eyes of a beginner. I have a couple books to look through but with something supposedly this old and kind of rare I have no idea what to look for. I have heard questions about this seller so that is my main concern. I'm very curious of what the sleuths here may say. Very appreciative of all the knowledge and here and the freedom with which it is shared.

Looks 100% authentic to me, good blade stamp, tang stamps, stag etc.

Definitely cool looking and I guess this company pre-dates L.F.&C. and was observed by them to make their pocket knives? I was trying to look up makers that I see on Ebay that look pretty. I was thinking if something old is too pretty maybe it's just fake, like too god to be true or something, but I guess it does have the obviously terrible blade gouge.

I collect H&B’s, I’ll see if I have this model and post some pics soon.

When you clean a knife to this point its honesty is in question IMO .
Blades have been overly cleaned poorly . The rear handle is still crisp where the front handle has a lot of pocket wear .

I saw that too Mike and had to remind myself that stag pieces available during assembly were prioritized by fit and not esthetics, I think the pile side handles just had a deeper profile than the shallower mark side handles.

Tom; yes, typical of other brands including Case - simple reason - they selected smoother flatter pieces of stag for the mark side, to facilitate the shield installation. More deeply rutted pieces - pile side.

I saw that knife and I would have bid on it - decided not to because of the ding in the blade.

Makes sense Tom , I just prefer my Knives to be in original condition with no question .
The over cleaning of the bolsters and blades hurt it IMO .
The old saying it can only be original once .

I love all the comments. Thank you guys for participating. Your replies and and concern enlighten me to things I haven't thought about before. I'm new to this form and collecting and it's great to have found a place with such a wealth of knowledge and experience. Thank you.

Blades are authentic, frame is suspicious.

I have not seen that shield before on a H&B, the front bolsters looked thinned down from replacing the pivot pin.

Frame is most likely from a different knife, would need to see the knife in hand for a more detailed opinion.

Here's another knife he recently sold, someone paid over $180.

It's a total fake, pictures below.

There's several more he has sold for substantial money that are fakes, buyer beware!

Be very cautious when you see an old New England brand with genuine stag handles.

Here's a fake N.Y Knife Co. He sold $375.
