All About Pocket Knives

Is there currently anyone that redoes etching on old knife blades? It seems that i’m seeing an awful lot of knives with nice crispy etching on the blades. I’m wondering if there is some one restoring them. Just curious.

He did,and the buyer turned around and sold them as mint.They still show up today.

that's 100% true Roger which is why I love the quote "if you think education is expensive, try ignorance". Unfortunately, many educated knife collectors have left their collections in the hands of those who are uneducated in regard to knife authenticity and re-etched knives get unknowingly sold as mint. Most re-etched knives are fairly easy to spot but sometimes they fool even the most seasoned knife collector. Caveat emptor.

Does anyone have any examples of restored etchings? I would like ro compare the8m with old etchings to know the difference.

I won't buy them.The most out there are Remingtons. The etches are usually fuzzy and the knives are always cleaned.You will also see a few re-etched Winchesters and Cattaraugus "King of the Woods"

I’ve seen the fuzzy etchings on the Remingtons and Winchesters.

Original Winchester etches were also shallow compared to Remingtons, Keen Kutters etc.If you see a deep dark Winchester etch,be cautious.
