Using a SONIC CLEANER on old knives??

I've been into old italian and german automatics lately. Wondering if some of the new technology sonic cleaners would really do a good job on cleaning any junk out of the knives. Has anyone done this then lubed up the knives afterward? Is sonic cleaning safe or is there a destructive aspect for older knives like stilletos and springers?
