Utica equal end Jack

I don't know anything about Utica knives. This was an impulse purchase. I took a picture of the spring to me it's too short for the knife it doesn't go back to the bolster. I have tried to look at other Utica old jack knives but really can't tell. I want to rehandle in bone but don't know if it is a wise thing to do because the knife is in pretty good shape. I don't want to harm the collector's value if there is any. Well anyway after my rambling do you all think it is the correct spring??

The spring is short becuase it is a "tool kit" knife. It is desinged so that other blades like a saw or screwdriver can be attached to the hande at the lower end. Various companies including Utica made thousands upon thousands of such tool kits - typically in a leathe rpouch with slots for the various tools. Look on eBay and you will easilty find some to look at.

I believe that to be the handle for a tool set. The end that looks like the spring is short is where the tools attach.

IMHO, I wouldn't re-handle it. It has good history and that would erase it. The rosewood is nice.

Im wondering if it hasn't already been rehandled? The wood looks a bit nicer than the steel. I have one very similar that's been redone in a simple black acrylic or something similar. I believe many were made with the rough black jigged composite which is known for shrinking up, so they're good rehandle candidates.

Thank you. I am now rethinking about the rehandle. Maybe it is better to leave it alone.

I just found this one on Ebay. Looks like the same knife. It also has wood handles. I think I should just let it alone and use it as it is.

UTICA ebay.jpgI just found this one on Ebay. Looks like the same knife. It also has wood handles. I think I should just let it alone and use it as it is.
Now you just have to find the kit that went with it.
