All About Pocket Knives

I posted this knife and sheath combo up in the custom knife section also but figured I would show the leather down here too. Lined sheath with some lacing work, carved feather and a coin inlayed into it as well . So come on people we need more leather work posted down here. I know I have not posted in a while so hopefully some more folks post

Thank you. And absolutely not show what you do learn and grow and get better. I for sure did not start out doing work like that. Im still learning and early on sharing what I did helped me progress and learn from other people. Anyone who makes things knows its a journey and most I have known want to help out. So please share what you do!!

Well, here's what I tried to do.
I like the shape of the sheath but I would never use those fasteners again. Lesson earned.
I like the little clinch nails at the bottom right, - I think. Some day I'll make a new sheath with those fasteners.
In most instances I am not afraid to fail. It's very eye opening.
It does support this knife well.

I agree never be afraid to fail. Looks like it works as intended. IF you want to get away from rivets or any type. Hand stitching is not hard to do. You can make holes with an awl or small drill bit in a drill press or hand drilleven. Worried about spacing dont have a over stitch wheel a fork will work to mark the leather. Couple needles and thread and a simple saddle stitch will work. Thanks for sharing what you made!! Keep enjoying it

I have collected a few tools and I tried some minimal trial stitching with out any tutoring.
I'm sure YouTube has some instruction. Maybe I should give it a better try.

That tool in the middle with the pointy wheel is an overstitch wheel they come in different sizes depending on length of stitch you want. That one looks to me like a lot of spi(stitch per inch), doesn't mean its bad just more stitching. The needles will work and the waxed thread works too. The tools above the overstitch wheel I cant tell if they are lacing chisels(makes a wider slot) of pricking irons(made for hand stitching punches a hole size for that). Regardless you can get an awl or maybe you have one around or like i said use a drill bit and a drill. Anyway do not be scared to try it It is not hard. I put a couple videos below I have no affiliation to either one just did a quick you tube search and did not view them all but seems like the basics. There are lots of them if you look up saddle stitch etc. I will say weaver leather has some fine videos covering lots of topics. Leodis leather and Armitage leather also have a lot of videos. That said I could list several more!

Anyway enjoy the journey. It is fun and the more you do the more you will progress. Somehow I went from where you are to a pretty full basement shop with sewing machines and all kinds of things(Btw you do not need all that to do some nice work basic hand tools will work)

There are also sheath tutorials on you tube lots of them. Just search them up. Ive toyed with doing a class at my shop maybe a few people and making one sheath for a knife or something. Not sure it would be worth it to folks. Maybe someday
