You just never know what someone is going to ask you to do when customizing or building a custom knife. I haven't been doing it real long but I have heard my share Such as OD Green dyed wood, black dyed "Tiger Curl" maple, and a French Walnut handle with no pins showing - that was easy cause I know they make 1/4" walnut dowels.
But then along comes a request for bubinga and no pins (don't know why GEC spells it the way they do, never heard of that). Yes, I know I can just use a shallow pin under the scale but that's to easy.
Anyhow, here is my solution I picked up while getting 2-5 gallon air tanks to put behind my bench (gets rid of the flat spots - it will continue to deliver 90 psi without going to low on tools that use a lot of air 
). I must say it works very well indeed!
So, I picked up these plug cutters to cut a plug of any desired wood. Some woods look great if you use a piece of Gaboon Ebony or blackwood. Bocote is such a wood that comes to mind. These cutters are cheap enough. Sizes: 1/4'', 3/8'', 1/2'', 5/8'' should be good enough. Go to Harbor Freight and type in 06956 for the item number.
Anyway, if you think about it long enough there is a dozen ways to do something and you end up with so many tools it's borderline ridiculous, cause I HAVE to try each and every one. Well I am going to start on those barlows.
