All About Pocket Knives

Unfortunately I just inherited my father's knife collection and came across this forum. We had always collected knives and talked about them a lot, but now it looks like I need to bone up on everything knives. His plan was for me to keep what I wanted for me and my sons, and sell what we weren't planning on putting in our personal collection.
I won't be selling anything that he personally carried, or any of his favorites. It'll probably be a year or so before anything is even let go just because of the vast amount of them anyway. He didn't have a computer, or know how to turn on his cell phone, so I've been researching knives for years for him. He always wanted me to sell them, I think he liked the idea of buying/selling just didn't get a chance to himself.
I'll be reading a ton of posts on here, and probably asking just as many questions. Just from a rough estimate I'd say there has to be about 50-60 used pocket knives, and another 600-800 brand new ones. Case was his go to purchase, but if it was sharp he was buying it no matter who made it.

to AAPK from Alexandria! We love pictures and there's a ton of knife info here, and then some.

Here are a few pictures, I finally got them all out of the cardboard boxes he had them in and transferred to plastic 7 gallon totes. The last few were things that I'd found that were either too heavy ($50 in coins), and his air force pins. The two knives at the end are one of his favorites that I'd bought him (WV), and his most recent favorite to carry, Moki.

Sorry for your loss. Your situation is unfortunately appearing here too often. AAPK has many knowledgeable members who are happy to help if you need it, especially with brands and patterns. The Research section here (found in the header at the top of this page), has lots of good information. There is a keyword search function under Quicklinks (upper left of this thread). The best source for values is typically an advanced search of eBay for sold listings only, of an item. If you don’t find any sales of the exact same knife you can usually find similar items from which to determine a ballpark value.

We actually just buried my dad in Point Pleasant. They used to tell me that if I didn't come inside when they told me to that the Mothman would get me.

I lived in Anne Arundel County for a few decades and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. In addition to the Mothman stories, we would tell our Scouts about Goatman, a Maryland urban legend, a half-man, half-goat creature, said to haunt Prince George's County, with stories of it being a mutated scientist or a hermit, often linked to attacks and the disappearance of dogs. You can imagine the stories that could be told about a scientist at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center whose experiment on goats backfired, turning him into a half-man, half-goat creature. He was typically described as a 6-foot-tall creature with the torso of a man and the legs of a goat, often depicted as hairy and walking on two hooves. The legend is primarily associated with Prince George's County, Maryland, particularly areas around Fletchertown Road in Bowie and near Governor's Bridge in Upper Marlboro, just over the Anne Arundel County line.

Some of the people I went to Church with used to take Mothman hunting trips to Mason County when they were young.

A friend I was in business with was parked on the ridge and had an encounter. He's about the most macho guy I know too.
