All About Pocket Knives

I purchased this knife at an estate sale lot. Recently posted it for sale on eBay with 4 days left on auction. I was wondering if it's going to get at $100 dollars ?

Yea I can take it down. I just don't know if I feel right about doing it since people have already been on it. Who knows maybe I'll feel right about it in the morning haha

I’m generally skeptical about a knife that looks brand new but has the stamp of an old knife. They do exist but my advice is to scrutinize carefully before buying one. I’ve done a little research and I do not find the OP knife pattern in Alvin Sellens book KEEN KUTTER Pocket Knives, leading me to conclude the knife is probably a modern “reproduction” at best. I seem to recall seeing the same knife before, with fish hooks on the metal handle covers, but don’t recall what the knife’s stamp was.

Edit: there’s a knife with the same covers (different blades) listed on eBay now: https://www.ebay.com/itm/235966075371?_ ... p_homepage. Says it’s a Globemaster, made in Japan.

Looks almost identical to this manufacturers handle. Pegley-davies not sure how it's spelled. I googled antique silver fly fishing pocket knives and there's all different brands from case to charade but that particular manufacturer looks almost identical to my handle material

I wonder if it's possible it's from that manufacturer and someone installed possibly genuine Keen Kutter blades.?

I mean if it's not truly a Keen Kutter handle, it certainly is a better quality handle it looks like it's very well made and that pegley Davies is the closest one that I can find almost identical to some that I've seen online when I've searched pegley Davies silver handle fly fishing pocket knives

If I remember correctly that manufacturer's handle material was nickel silver so I guess it's possible that it could remain looking that new over the years if it's quality material?

If it's not a real complete Keen cutter pocket knife, and I have it listed on eBay as a keem cutter fishing antique knife, I'm assuming I'm better off ending the auction and just selling it rather than having somebody wanting their money back. And then relisting it on eBay as a replica. I'm just frustrated because I think eBay is going to charge me for canceling it at this point.

The Keen Cutter brand is owned by Val-Test hardware group out of Illinois and licence it to others. I have no idea about the knife in question but Pegley- Davis knife is shore out of my price range.

Can you modify the listing to include that you're not sure about the knife's authenticity without being charged by eBay? If you include a warning, then it's the buyer's responsibility in my opinion.

Our other resident Keen Kutter officianado has not commented, anxious for his take.

The description says it is a fixed blade.

I noticed those Pegley Davies look pretty expensive. I know nothing about knives. But I've been buying a lot of them from estate sales to resell. I did try to revise my eBay listing but it won't let me since there's bids already on it. I don't know that I can actually talk to somebody on eBay about how to fix that but I'll try. If I can't then I'm just going to remove the auction even though people have already been on it

Pegley-Davies was a British maker of fly fishing rods, went out of business forty or so years ago. The knife you found is a nostalgia piece that would have appeal to fly fishermen familiar with Pegley-Davies. It is prominently marked “Pegley-Davies Anglers’ Knife” on the cover that has the ruler. Does your knife have scissors and a screwdriver tab (can’t tell from your pictures).
Similar to the old Case Tested XX knives which are valuable as collectables (and can sell for hundreds of dollars) but if the same knife had another maker’s stamp on it, it’s a fifty dollar knife - maybe, at best. I think the best you can do is represent the knife as what it is, with the buyer responsible for determining if it has any authenticity or not.

When I originally posted it I did use an AI description. When I went back and looked at my title of the sale that had keen kutter antique on it. Which was fine with me but after thinking about it and looking at how nice the knife look I wanted to research it and see other styles of that knife and I couldn't find any on the internet. But I agree the knife should be represented for what it is that's why I'm considering taking the eBay auction down. I don't want to sell a $50 knife for more than $50.

I've said for years (kinda tongue in cheek)that computers are gonna be the downfall of the world.
AI has speeded up the process 10 fold.

I don't know much about eBay yet and I don't know much about pocket knives yet. But if that's a fair way to sell something the way I have it listed that's all that matters to me. Whether I make $5 or $100 off of it.

I didn't even notice that the description said it's fixed blade so there's that too. But I'm sure anybody interested probably could tell by the picture that's not the case with that anyway.
