All About Pocket Knives

Recently acquired this knife and can’t find any info through online research. It is a main blade switchblade with a saw blade, can opener, flat head screw driver, and a cork screw. Action works great as does the lock. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like a Latama "Camper" model. If it's authentic, it's both rare and valuable. On their website Latama describes the "Camper" as "ultra-rare".

There is a very similar one on Latama's website (pic below), but that one doesn't have a visible catch-hole on the blade like yours does.

Latama didn't make knives, they were/are a US importer. They had their knives made by others in Italy. So it's possible the differences between your knife and the one pictured on Latama's site are the result of the two knives being made by different makers.

If I were you I would want Bill DeShivs to look at the pics of your knife and give his opinion regarding it's authenticity. Mr. DeShivs is an expert on Italian switchblades, and does repair and restoration work for Latama (he restored the Camper pictured on the Latama website). I imagine he will see this thread. You could also contact Latama and ask them about it.

If you care about preserving it's value, I suggest that you not fire the blade any more than is absolutely necessary, to avoid the risk of breaking the spring.

Your knife is authentic and seldom seen. I believe these were made by Lepre, for Latama.
Yours needs to be oiled.

I collect all types of knives in general but specialize in German gravity knives so I can appreciate your comment on the fragility of the spring.

Although Latama is a very desirable brand among collectors, trying to determine the value of your knife might be difficult. I know of three other Latama Campers besides yours, but I can't find any "sold" listings, or any other indication of what they have sold for in the past.

Generally speaking, vintage Latama switchblades often sell for prices ranging from $500 to $2000 or more. It all depends on how rare and desirable the particular knife is, the condition, and how bad a collector wants it at any given time. There is no set market for vintage switchblades, and the market can be very fickle.

I'm afraid that's the best I've got for you.
