A coworker inherited this folder from her grandfather who carried it in WW2, purchased in Germany she thinks. It's carried as a fixed in a sheath, but folds put into a really long blade like a safety knife. What can you guys tell me about it?

It’s called a d’Estaing knife, named for its supposed inventor. D’Estaing was an officer in the French navy who needed a knife that was more easily carried than a more traditional saber or cutlass, yet could be used as a fighting weapon. Often erroneously called a “folding Bowie” (thank you eBay

). See here for more info
