All About Pocket Knives

Anyone get the mailing about the NRA’s 50th anniversary knife? It’s made to look similar to a Buck 110. The name on the tang is Stone River. Who is that? Free with a $32 donation means there can’t be much to it.

I haven't received that mailing yet, usually get most promotional materials.
Something doesn’t quite add up to me. I became a life member in 1971, that was the 100th anniversary year of the NRA. 1921 would have been the 50th anniversary. Maybe it's a 50th anniversary of another division of the NRA.
Sadly some of the products sold by the NRA probably are made "over there". My old buddy that passed away back in 2018, bought his son a set of gunsmith tools that were listed on the NRA site. They were made in China, he sent them back along with an ear full about patriotism!

Stone River Gear seems to mostly do OEM for promotional purposes. The Stihl folder I bought off my dealer has a Stone River Gear MADE IN CHINA stamp.

PS: instead of a 110 clone, why not just go with a standard 110?

Funny! The first "free knife" I got from the NRA, I wrote them giving them an earful about the same thing!
And, sorry, I should have been clear - NRA-ILA!

While our reasons for having knives made in China include the reduction of costs to allow for greater funds to apply towards our mission and that we frequently place orders in such massive quantities that it is difficult to find a U.S.-based manufacturer who can keep up with our requests, I appreciate you taking the time to inform us of your opinion on this situation. I will pass your comments along to our staff that is in charge of making decisions like this.

If that’s the response then they shouldn’t give gifts and use all the money for it’s intended purpose better than fueling the China train

I dont believe that was always the case. As a case in point, l have a BUCK 525 that was made for tie NRA-ILA and several belt buckles that were USA made. Also have a BUCK 110 that was made for the FRIENDS OF THE NRA in Lenawee county Michigan.
The last one l received was a multi tool that looked a lot like a Gerber with the NRA logo in raised letters on the frame. Also one by CRKT.

Just curious so I went on the official NRA website and all of the merchandise they have listed for sale hats coats shirts etc. are imported

Not trying to bash the NRA I AM A MEMBER just stating a fact that’s disappointing to ME

Found another one amidst my S.A.K.s. Not sure when these were issued.

They have to save money by buying Chinese stuff so they can afford the postage to mail you dozens of renewal notices.

I have been a Life member of the NRA for 44 years in that time I have received knives from them. I have a couple I could find most were China made. The Lakota is a USA made knife.

Almost all of the NRA knives I have received mailings for have been made in China. So was the two knife set from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the canoe from the HandyMan Club of America. If you receive a mailing for a knife you’d like to have but don’t want to join/support the “organization”; most of those knives will show up on “the Bay” cheaper than the dues required to receive the “free” knife. I have personally found a couple of these “deals“. They can usually be purchased at a price commensurate with the quality of the knife. But there are other sellers who think these “rare collectible knives” are worth hundreds of dollars. Caveat emptor!

Several years ago I wrote on my renewal that I sent in that I did not want any of my funds to go for Wayne's hairstyling.

I am something like a patron benefactor life member of the NRA...I can't keep up with their designations.

Anyway, I'm generally embarrassed to carry or use any of their promotional materials because for years it has been really cheaply made stuff from overseas. If NRA says an item has a FMV of $150, I would likely value it at less than 1/10th that.

These days, I just forgoe the promo items. There is usually a box on the form to do that.

If you are an NRA member and have not voted, please consider voting for Kim Rhode...she's a patriot and a champion and will serve NRA members well.
