All About Pocket Knives

I've had the older one for around 20 years and I think it's a mis 80s according to a chart I found on this site somewhere. The new one just came in the mail. I can't tell any difference in the actual knives. They have switched to a gold shield and switched which blade they do the etching on or whatever it is on the blades but besides that I think the new ones are as good as the old ones. Now obviously I can't compare the steel from just looking but it still says hammer forged on it and I would assume it's the same stuff. What do you guys think. I'm interested in hearing anything about German Eye knives or seeing some pics. I personally love this Copperhead in their version of delrin or whatever the material is.

I know older German Eyes are excellent knives. They take a wicked edge, but will not stand any twisting or prying or the hard steel will break. Treated right, they are lifetime EDCs. Given a choice of old vs new, I would take old, a known quantity.

Thanks for the replies guys. I love the old Hen and Rooster and Bertrum knives and I love German Eye knives. I don't have any German knives left besides maybe 6 or 7 but I love the German stuff. I want one of the German Eye Sodbuster looking knives next.

I was wondeing about this subject - are Eye Brand knives still in production in Solingen?

There is one eBay seller that has some Eye Brand knives in stock, multiples of each, but I have no idea whether they are "new od stock" or current production. I have been under the impression that no company is left making traditional pocket knives is Solingen. Usually when a seller has multiples of each, then that means that they are still in production.

The most current info. that I’m aware of is that Olbertz was the now manufacturer of Eye Brand.
Maybe someone has even more current info.

Intersting!! I thought I had heard that Olbbertz had closed up, but maybe not. They were probalby the last company to use hammer forging.

I have 2 early Eye knives. One is similar to omme of the OPs knives and the other a small stag lockback. The former is well made while the lockback has a serious problem: apparently the tang was improperly ground causing the blade to snap closed when it reaches the 90 degree position. It has bitten me more than once and there is no easy way to fix it.
