All About Pocket Knives

I need help putting a date to this knife. Tang stamp reads:
Rich. A HERDER
^
SOLINGEN
GERMANY
I have read that after WW2 we still had troops in Europe and gave some local manufacturers contracts, but does that sound right? The knife has no brass liners or pins, and is all steel w/ nickel silver bolsters. The knife feels very well made. Does the 1945-1948 range sound right for this knife?

Germany didn't really start exporting ordinary manufactured goods in any quantity until the 50s. The TL-29 was manufactured by dozens of makers, there would have been no need for a US importer to go to the work and expense of importing a German knife in the mid 40s. It may have been manufactured between the wars, but most likely dates from the mid 50s onward.
