Tale Of The Cyber Knife

A Cyber Knife is a remarkable medical machine. In spite of its name, it has nothing to do with a blade. It is a guided robotic machine that shoots a very intense radiation beam into tiny cancerous cells with supreme accuracy thereby not affecting any healthy cells around it. It is non-invasive; no surgery is required. Side effects are minimal, unlike the standard procedures of surgery, chemo, and standard radiation.
My experience for early-stage prostate cancer required 5 treatments over 5 days. Each treatment took 18 minutes. I found the experience interesting.
The treatment times passed quickly with my choice of music, Mostly Mo Town.
I decided to share this information because most of our members are male and prostate issues become more common with age. I was unaware of the Cyber Knife until recently. Others among us may be similarly unaware. Because of its high success rate, in the mid-90s percentile, I felt it important for us to know of this technology
If a tumor has metastasized, the treatment will not be useful. Nor is it widely available, no doubt due to cost and availability of trained technicians. There are only 20 of these Cyber Knives in the country. I was blessed; there are two of them in Kentucky at Lexington and Louisville.
I understand that other cancers may similarly be treated. So women as well as men may find it applicable.
A final important note: Please get regular checkups. Whatever treatments you may choose will be more effective the earlier the cancer is discovered.
