1940-1964 case knives

Is it possible to tell if a 40-64 knife is made closer to 1940 or 1964?

I have read that Case began stamping pattern numbers on the tang in 1949. Don’t know the validity of that though.

Sometimes the shield can offer an indication. If the shield has the "Closed C" in it, then it was probably made closer to 1940. If the shield has the "Open C" and a "Tall S," it was probably made lid to late in the 40 - 64 period. The change was pretty gradual from what I understand, so there are examples of both shields on knives from that period.

Picked up today. I assume this is a stockman ? No pattern number. Stamped case xx. Can anyone confirm it’s a stockman? What about market value in today’s prices ?

Yes a tockman - pattern # 6332 with green bone handles.

Yours shows some use and wear. If it has strong snap on all blades, no blade wobble, no handle cracks - potentially 140 to 200.

Thank you , yes it has been used. But does snap good and has no visible cracks. No wobble either.
