Victorinox Hiker for my son’s birthday!

Sorry about the terrible photos… I guess I should have found some better lighting. I got this personalized Victorinox Hiker for my son’s 14 birthday. It’s his first knife, and I think he’s really going to like it! Besides the tools shown it has a saw blade and an awl.

That is a good choice. I have grown to like SAK's, especially those with a screwdriver instead of a corkscrew.
That one is especially nice with the clear scales and his name on it.

They only offer a limited number of models that you can personalize, and there were a few I might have chosen instead if they didn’t have corkscrews. It felt like it would make me some kind of enabler! Anyway, you gotta have a Phillips head screwdriver.

Congratulations for selecting a gift that can become a valued keepsake and useful tool! Having gifted pocketknives to several nephews and nieces, my advice is to keep some bandaids at hand - he will likely cut himself (regardless what you tell him).
Fortunately it likely will not be serious, and he will learn from it.
I have taught knife safety to Scouts for about forty years. Here’s a link to some good info regarding knife safety. Hopefully you (and your son) will take a couple of minutes to view it.

Thanks for the link Ken! I have a clear memory of cutting myself with my first pocket knife as a kid

That is a great gift.
I got my then girlfriend a Swiss Army knife over 40 years ago, and she has kept it in her purse ever since, and loves having a reason to pull it out and use the sizzors or tweezers, etc. She has kept me around too, married 38 years, and she has never given me a hard time about my growing knife collection. So that Swiss Army knife was a great investment.

I have the same one with the red handles and it is one of my favorite EDC knives. He is going to be well served by it.
