All About Pocket Knives

I’d like to share pics of an IXL that I inherited from my brother who passed in April. It’s about 6 1/8” long closed with a 5” blade and 11 1/4” open. Iron liners, pins and bolsters with stag scales. If you look at the butt end of the knife you can see the liners are slanted to spring and tapered to the pivot bolster.
It is stamped IXL on the tang and stamped G WOSTENHOLM & SON WASHINGTON WORKS SHEFFIELD on the blade. It does not say England anywhere that I can find. Snap is good, minimal play open and no rust or pitting. It came with the old leather thong, but I wonder if originally it had a bail.
I have other IXL knives, but nothing this old. So please, I welcome any comments or information that you may have to offer. Please forgive my photography.

Your brother had good taste, that's a great old knife. Washington Works is an older Wostenholm stamp.

Your brother had very good taste. I have one IXL knife
(not large) which is well made.

Thank you all for the kind words and the info. My sweet brother also left me some other nice knives including a Rev-O-Noc hobo, a Schrade Fisherman’s Pride and some Eye Brands. Not to mention a couple of good guns. We swapped and gifted each other all our lives. I’ll post a few more of them some time now that I’m retired. I’d rather have him back than have them all.

Sorry to hear of your loss.
That's a fine old knife which probably dates from the late 1800s to possibly early 1900s.
Contrary to what's been stated, Wostenholm used those same Blade markings up until WWII.
The lack of an "England" stamp does not necessarily mean that it was made prior the 1890 Tarif act.
