Good, fair or bad deal

Hi all
I'm new here and new to the knife collecting world. I have always been fascinated by knives and especially pocket knives, but I have only recently started reading about them and I still have so much to learn.
In advance I would like to apologize for my English, English is not my main language. Also sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place.
I have found this knife that I would like to buy, but I can't find the exact same knife anywhere online or in this forum, so I can't compare prices.
According to the seller, the blade is silver and the handle is mother of pearl. The knife is stamped H.F & co
The price is approx 40$
My question is, is this a good, fair or a bad deal?

Sorry I don’t know a lot about the knife, but as a long-time collector I will say that although none of us wants to overspend for a knife the most important questions to ask are, do I like it?, does it fit within my collecting focus? (if you have one), can I afford it?, how likely am I to find another like it for a lower price?
Most collectors have paid more for a knife than it was worth. Sometimes knowingly, sometimes not. If you have second thoughts, let it go. If you want it, buy it. Recommend reading through the posts in this thread

The hallmarks on the knife date it to Sheffield made 1929.

Thanks Ken those are some good points. I'm not 100% sure if I should buy it, have until tomorrow to decide. If I'm still in doubt there, I'll let it go.

Thanks, that fits very well with my own guess that it was just about 100 years old

It's a silver fruit knife, I think the price is very reasonable.

The Mother of Pearl is so beautiful that I believe it is a fair price. Many knives that old with MOP are already cracked.
If you like the knife, I think it is a fair price.

Yes, I completely agree. I think I will end up buying it because it seems to be in exceptional condition for such an old knife.

Looks like nice MOP with some "fire" and no cracks. It seems to be in excellent condition for a hundred year old knife. That's a cool little piece to add to your collection.

I personally think that is a fair price for a nice fruit knife. That is what they are called and were very popular in the 19th century and into the 20th century a bit. My impression is that the silver blades were used because the non-stainless steel blades were believed to add an unpleasant taste to the food, especially fruit. Many were also made with silver handles, somethimes ornately stamped out and/or hand-engraved. Welcome!
