Need help identifying an old German knife

I found this little knife in the dirt at the building site of my folks new house in n Jackson County, Missouri in 1958. The size can be judged from the quarter I put with it in the photo. It was pretty worn but in otherwise good shape and I could just barely make out "Germany" on it. Anyway, the straight blade is, of course, just a nice little blade. But what has perplexed me since is the other blade. Curved as shown, with the curved end flat and the inside of the curve sharpened. Perhaps it was an artist's knife and used to sharpen pencils in the field?
Anyway, I've puzzled over this for some time, and after "rediscovering" it in a dresser drawer spent time looking at many pictures on web sites and find nothing even close. So I'm hoping someone on the forum can help. Thanks!
