Good morning good people. I found this in an antique mall over the weekend. I think I can see a big Q on the tang. IU am thinking it is an old Queen. Anyone have any insights on this?

I think you are correct- it’s an old Queen stockman.

The tang stamp looks like the one Queen used from 1958 — 1960.

That would be what around here is often called a “HOK” (Honest Old Knife)

Nice find! Looks like it still has plenty of miles remaining on it; should serve quite nicely as an EDC.

Given the obvious wear/blade loss, I suppose it could be old Winterbottom bone that has been worn smooth with use over time. However, it's so evenly smooth I can't help but wonder if perhaps it has been re-handled in smooth natural bone.

Q, the reason I'm calling it worn Winterbottom are the 3 darker yellow streaks/lines showing on the mark side. That seems to be how some of the old ones end up looking after long years of use. It's really hard to read some things from a picture. I will also agree that it could have been re-handled. Also I'm not finding a stockman that will fit the 4 5/8"(4.625") slot.

Are you sure about the 4 5/8 inch measurement? My resources don't show a stockman that large. If that is the correct measurement, we'll need to dig somewhere else for a pattern number.

Ive seen a very few quite smooth Winterbottoms, this one is quite, quite smooth.?
