All About Pocket Knives

My son bought a SW Executive gold knife at a thrift store. It appears a bit dull, there is some rust but not too much, and we will need to tighten the bolt that holds the blade. I have two primary questions:

1. Where do I find the tool to tighten the bolt for the blade (see pic 1) 2. How do I polish and restore the gold finish on the handle and blade? I am worried that using typical materials like wet sandpaper, solvent, and metal polish may remove the gold finish all together? Below is a pic of the knife we have (pic 2 and 3)and a pic of the knife as it should look (pic 4).

I did notice that in the “How it should look” picture, the pivot has a Torx screw in the middle but yours doesn’t have one.

Is there a Torx screw on the other side under the pocket clip, by any chance?

I would polish it by hand using something like NeverDull, Flitz, or Mother's Mag polish.
As for the pivot screw, I have not seen one like that before.

I don’t have any gold knives so I’m no expert. But if the gold finish is an anodized coating, metal polish can take it off. I saw that happen to a Kershaw Sapphire a guy was cleaning at a knife show. So you may want to test a little spot before applying to the entire knife.

I beleive thats a gold tint Titanium coating, in case that helps.

I had a bad experience with a gold anodized coating on a blade. There were some corrosion 'blisters' that somehow formed between the gold anodized coating and the blade steel. The only way to remove the corrosion was to remove the gold coating.

Does the nut on the clip side look the same? If not, remove the clip and tighten from that side. Would the #2 pencil treatment remove rust but not the titanium coating?

I would agree that the gold is a titanium coating. Supposed to be a satin finish; not polished. You would need a special face pin spanner to tighten the pivot nut, but you coukd improvise one by taking a pair of right angle needle nose pliers and grinding the tips to fit the holes.
