All About Pocket Knives

Can anybody explain the difference to me, if there is- or are differences, between the two models marketed as "Old Reliable" and "Ranch Hand"?

I believe these were both Camillus made “reproductions”. Neither are original old Remingtons. The Ranch Hand was a 1999 introduction having a bullet shield. Thus there should also be a limited edition “Silver Bullet” version. However to my knowledge (limited ) there was never an original R103 with a bullet shield.

The Old Reliable came in 2004 and had a regular federal shield, more like the original Remington R103 (which was supposedly the very first Remington pocket knife pattern, released in 1920). I’ve seen some without any shield, and some with, and without, a bail.

Other than that I don’t know if there are any differences. Somewhere I have an original old R103 with a bail. I don’t recall ever handling any of the reproductions.

Maybe one of the Remington collectors will have more (or correct me).
